HONMI is an art and design studio founded by Bryan Honting Wong and Namhi Kwun, a duo trained in architecture and based between New York and Seoul. Their work explores art as a medium to critique geographical abstraction under modernism, reveal cultural disappearances, and expand conventional design lexicons through alternative values.
Rooted in community engagement, HONMI’s projects confront issues of homogenization and gentrification, fostering dialogue with undervalued and overlooked communities. Their practice spans pavilions, exhibitions, installations, furniture, architecture, zines, performances, short films, and workshops—each project marked by an expressive use of color and gradient, evoking personal and collective emotions drawn from social conditions and the built environment. Responding to post-apocalyptic retail ecologies, HONMI also experiments with alternative exhibition models by transforming vacant storefronts into pop-up spaces that connect emerging artists and designers with the public. By curating and designing these spaces, they reimagine the storefront as both a spatial installation and a social venue.
HONMI will present their latest work at the 5th Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism in September 2025. They have received support from the Center for the Arts at MIT, AIA Central Massachusetts, and were awarded the 2024 Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts.
Bryan holds a SMArchS in Architecture and Urbanism from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a BA in Landscape Architecture from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Namhi holds dual master's degrees in Architecture (SMArchS) and City Planning (MCP) from MIT, and a BArch from California College of the Arts (CCA).
